How the link works

Two devices. No server in between.

Most “remote control” features in this category route your commands through the vendor’s cloud: your remote talks to their server, their server talks to your prompter. It is easier to build, it needs an account, and it stops working when their service does.

Here the prompter opens a small server on the device itself and advertises it on your local network. The remote finds it, checks the protocol versions match, and connects directly over a WebSocket after you confirm a pairing code. Commands travel one hop, across your own Wi-Fi.

The practical difference shows up in a studio with locked-down networking, on a conference floor with no usable internet, and on a shoot where the venue Wi-Fi has a captive portal — all places where the cloud-relay version simply stops.

How do I control a teleprompter from another phone?
Put both devices on the same Wi-Fi network. On the prompter, open Remote and switch it to “Be the prompter” — it shows a QR code. On the second device, open Remote and tap “Scan a QR code”. That is the whole setup. You can also let the second device discover the prompter by itself and type the 4-digit code instead, which is the route to use when a camera is not free.

Is it safe to share the pairing QR or link?
Treat it like the pairing code itself: anyone who can scan it and is on your Wi-Fi can drive the prompter. It cannot be used from outside your network. Your prompter’s address travels in the part of a link that browsers do not transmit, so opening one on a phone without the app installed never discloses it — only the short pairing code shown in the link reaches our server, and four digits are useless without the address they unlock.

Does remote control go through the internet?
No. The two devices talk to each other directly over your local network using a WebSocket connection. There is no relay server, no account and no internet requirement — it works on an isolated network with no route to the outside world.

What can the remote actually do?
Play, pause, restart to the top, nudge the scroll up or down, change scroll speed and text size, switch to a different script from your library, and start or stop a recording. It also shows the live state of the prompter, so the play button reflects what is really happening rather than what you last tapped.

Can the remote show the script as well?
Yes. The prompter pushes the loaded script to the remote, so the second device doubles as a confidence monitor for a producer, a director or a co-host standing off camera.

Is the connection secure?
Connections require a pairing code displayed on the prompter, and repeated wrong codes are rate-limited. Both devices also check that they are running compatible protocol versions and refuse the connection with a clear message rather than half-working if they are not.

Do both devices need Pro?
Remote control is a Pro feature on the device running the prompter. The device acting as the remote does not need its own subscription.
